Scholarship Auditions
All auditions will be in-person on Saturday, March 6, 2027 at Bob Jones University, Gustafson Fine Arts Center. The registration deadline is February 16, 2027 at 11:59 PM.
Scholarships for 2025-2026 are graciously being provided by the Virginia Bellew Fund, Bob Jones University Division of Music, the Jadex Corporation, Steinway Gallery of the Carolinas, Piano Smiths, and Ropert Jones Pianos and Organs.
Scholarship sponsors and amounts for 2026-2027 will be announced in January 2027

GMTA Laurence Hamilton Morton Piano Division I Scholarships

2026 LHM Piano Sponsors, Division I (9th - 12th grades)
$300 provided by Robert Jones Pianos & Organs
$200 provided by the Bob Jones University Division of Music
$200 provided by Jadex, Inc.
$100 provided by Jadex, Inc.
$100 provided by Steinway Piano Gallery of the Carolinas

To be eligible, an applicant in school grades 9-12 must be a student of a current GMTA piano teacher.
All 12th grade students will automatically be considered for the Steinway Gallery of the Carolinas Senior Piano Scholarship when they enter the Laurence Hamilton Morton Piano Division I Scholarship auditions.
Non-GMTA member teachers must pay an annual fee of $50 to have students participate in auditions.

Registration Fees:
9th - 11th grades: $20 per student
12th grade: $25 per student (includes both LHM Piano Division I registration fee and Steinway Gallery of the Carolinas Senior Piano Scholarship registration fee)

The student must perform two (2) solo pieces from memory.
The student must perform one (1) J. S. Bach piece from: the Sinfonias, English Suites, French Suites,
Toccatas, Partitas, Well-Tempered Clavier (one Prelude or one Fugue), or more difficult.The student must also perform one (1) composition from Classical, Romantic, or Contemporary literature.
A total audition time of 12 minutes will be strictly enforced.
Original scores with numbered measures must be provided for the judge.
Photocopies of copyrighted pieces and/or editions are prohibited.
Any digitally purchased copies must have the purchaser’s name printed on the music or
should be accompanied by a receipt.Concerto repertoire, arrangements, and transcriptions are unacceptable.
Previous winners may not repeat their repertoire from past LHM Piano Auditions. Repertoire will be checked each year.

Scholarships will (or will not) be awarded at the discretion of the judge. The decision of the judge shall be final.
Scholarship monies will be paid directly to the teacher or institution of the student’s choice, and will be mailed within one month following the auditions.
*The amount appropriated from the Bellew Fund is flexible, and is approved by the Executive Board on an annual basis.
GMTA Laurence Hamilton Morton Piano Division II Scholarships

Steinway Gallery of the Carolinas Senior Piano Scholarship

$250 Scholarship provided by Steinway Gallery of the Carolinas, Greenville

To be eligible, a graduating senior pianist must be a student of a current GMTA piano teacher.
The student must also participate in the Laurence Hamilton Morton Division I Piano Scholarship auditions in order to be considered for the Steinway Gallery of the Carolinas Senior Piano Scholarship.
Non-GMTA member teachers must pay an annual fee of $50 to have students participate in auditions.

The student must perform one (1) required foreign language (non-English) piece.
The student must perform one (1) choice piece of contrasting style from standard vocal literature: Classical, art songs, anthems, spirituals, or Broadway show tunes.
A total audition time of 8 minutes will be strictly enforced.
Original scores with numbered measures must be provided for the judge.
Photocopies of copyrighted pieces and/or editions are prohibited. Any digitally purchased copies must have the purchaser’s name printed on the music or should be accompanied by a receipt.
Selections written to be performed with accompaniment must be performed with accompaniment.

Non-GMTA member teachers must pay an annual fee of $50 to have students participate in auditions.
